Erdoğan bargains for natural gas in Azerbaijan

Başbakan Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye’nin ihtiyacı olan doğalgazın bir bölümünün Azerbaycan’dan karşılanması konusunda gerekli kolaylığın gösterileceğini söyledi.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that a large part of the natural gas Turkey needs would be received from Azerbaijan, making things easier for the country.

Erdoğan ve Azerbaycan Cumhurbaşkanı İlham Aliyev baş başa ve heyetlerarası görüşmelerin ardından basın toplantısı düzenlediler. Yapılan görüşmelerde ülkeler arasındaki siyasi, ekonomik, askeri, ticari, eğitim gibi alanlarda ilişkileri gözden geçirdiklerini belirten Erdoğan, “Her yönden yararlı olan bu görüşmelerde ikili ilişkilerimizde bundan sonraki süreci nasıl değerlendireceğimizi, ne gibi adımlar atabileceğimizi görüşme fırsatımız oldu” diye konuştu.

Erdoğan and İlham Aliyev the president of Azerbaijan met face to face and on the committee level, after which they held a news conference. Erdoğan said that the two had touched on political, economic, military, trade and educational relations between the two nations in the meeting, saying that "in these all-around worthwhile discussions we had the opportunity for a discussion on how we would utilize our bilateral relations from now, and what steps we will be able to take."

Erdoğan, “Ülkelerimiz arasında ekonomik ve ticari ilişkiler son dönemde artarak devam ediyor. Bugün Türkiye, Azerbaycan’ın petrol dışındaki sektörlerine en fazla yatırım yapan ülke konumuna gelmiştir” dedi.

Erdoğan said that "the economic and trade relations between our countries have continued to increase. Today Turkey has reached a point where it is now the country that has invested the most in sectors in Azerbaijan outside of petrol."

İki ülke arasındaki enerji işbirliğine ilişkin bir soru üzerine ise Erdoğan, “Bildiğiniz gibi BTC ile ilgili olarak burada bir transit ülke konumundayız. Yani ihtiyacımızın belli bir kısmını o hattan giderebilme imkanımız var. Enerji bakanlarımız aralarında görüşerek bu miktarı belli bir yere oturtacaklar. Bu arada NABUCCO olayını aramızda görüştük. Bu konuyla ilgili olarak da yine mevcut kapasiteye göre buradan NABUCCO’ya belli bir miktar da doğalgaz verme imkanı olacak” değerlendirmesinde bulundu.

Erdoğan appraised the energy cooperation between the two countries in response to a statement with the following: "As you are aware, we are a transit country here regarding the BTC pipeline. That means that we are able to fullfil a clear part of our needs from the pipeline. Our energy ministers will meet to bring this portion to a proper locale. In the meantime we've consulted amongst ourselves about NABUCCO. Regarding this there will be a possibility to give a certain amount from here to NABUCCO as well in accordance with the existing capacity."

Azerbaycan Cumhurbaşkanı İlham Aliyev de, Azerbaycan ve Türkiye’nin her konudaki tutumlarının “tamamen örtüştüğünü” belirtti. “Türkiye, Azerbaycan için stratejik müttefiktir” diyen Aliyev, Türkiye’nin tutumunun kendileri için tam olarak tatmin edici bulunduğunu ifade etti.

The president of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev also said that they had "completely agreed" on every issue with Turkey. "Turkey is a strategic ally of Azerbaijan" said Aliyev, saying that they were completely content with Turkey's demeanour.
