Eurasian Education Union (Uluslararası Avrasya Eğitim Sendikaları Birliği) supports Turkish as common language for Turkic republics

Here's a small piece on a Eurasian Education Union (Uluslararası Avrasya Eğitim Sendikaları Birliği, kind of a union of teachers' unions I think) that gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, from the 3rd to the 4th of November. Apparently they criticized Armenia in the gathering because of the part of Azerbaijan Armenia still has under its control, but the more interesting part (to me as a student of languages that is) is that they also supported Turkish as the common language for Turkic republics, namely Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. And Turkmenistan as well, but they didn't seem to participate in the meeting.

Ayrıca, Türkiye Türkçesinin tüm Bağımsız Türk Cumhuriyetlerinde ortak dil olarak kabul edilmesi desteklendi.

The adopting of Turkish as the common language for all Independent Turkish Republics was also supported.


Turkish as a common tongue for Turkic-speaking republics is a no-brainer of course if they had to choose one, since it's the only one that has had any sort of stability and prominence in its own country over the past few decades (changing scripts, not being able to compete with Russian or Chinese). I have no idea how much influence this union has, however.
