Iran after the elections: 20 June 2009
Saturday, June 20, 2009
Hi - if you're here due to a Twitter update, check the bottom of the post.
I'll be updating this post throughout the day as events warrant.
The White House on Khamenei's speech yesterday.
Guess who doesn't care about Khameini's speech - you guessed it, Karroubi.
BBC Persian has a video of the nightly protests here. There's some Allaho Akbar, some Ya Hossein, and Marg bar diktator. And now that automatic translation has been enabled you can get an idea of what the article says here too.
Channel 4 news on yesterday's speech by Khameini. Notice something about the crowd? All guys.
A tweet in Persian and English is clear as a bell.
Other tweets in Persian are saying that Mousavi will be at the protest at Enghelab Square at 4 pm. Right now it's approaching 8 am in Iran. Mousavi's Facebook page also says that he'll be there.
A tweet in Persian from just now (8:30 or so):
says that last night's Allaho Akbar chants in Tehran were everywhere, and louder than any other night before.
A writeup here is also worth reading - has an interesting bit about defections in the Revolutionary Guard.
It's just about 12 on Saturday in Iran and everyone's waiting for 4 pm to arrive. Personally I think the gathering will be huge.
I see that a lot of people on Twitter are choosing ancient Persian symbols as their avatars. I'll add some eye candy too as we wait. Here's a pegasus from the Parthian era.
Cyrus the Great.
And an 18th-century Persian astrolabe.
More updates in a few hours after I get back (before 4 pm in Iran).
