The Indian rupee now has its own snazzy sign

It looks like this:
That resembles both a Devanagari र and an English R with the left side removed and two horizontal lines added.
For more on the symbol, see here and here. The man who designed it will be paid just 250,000 rupees ($5,363), but is also receiving worldwide fame and will have a name in the history books.
My first encounter with the rupee, of course, was back in the early 1980s:
