Berdimuhammedow and Nazarbayev meet in Astana; Kazakhstan to seek Turkmen gas

Today's news talks about a railway between five cities that I've never heard of and most people probably don't know, so I'll preempt the article and find some info on them first.

The first city is called Uzen, has a population of some 50,000 and is located in Mangystau Province (Маңғыстау облысы) here:

Turkmenistan of course is right next to it.

Next is Kızılkaya, and there are tons of places with the same name so I have no idea where this city is.

Following that is Bereket. Wikipedia tells me that this is a place in Turkmenistan that used to be called Gazanjyk. And...the German Wikipedia has it! Here's a map from there showing the location of this mysterious Gazanjyk:

Next is Etrek. There is no article on the city itself but it seems to be in Balkan Province, Turkmenistan:



And finally, Gürgen...no idea. Once again there are a lot of places with the same name.

Kazakhstan to seek Turkmen gas

Türkmenistan Devlet Başkanı Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov, Astana'nın başkent oluşunun 10. yıldönümü kutlamaları çerçevesinde Kazakistan Devlet Başkanı Nursultan Nazarbayev ile de bir araya geldi.

In the 10th anniversary celebrations of Astana's becoming the capital of Kazakhstan, the president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow also met with the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Ağırlıklı olarak enerji alanındaki işbirliğinin ele alındığı görüşmede, Türkmen gazının satın alınması konusu da ele alındı.

In a meeting dealing especially with cooperation in the energy sector, the selling of Turkmen gas was also a subject dealt with.

Berdimuhameov ile Nazarbayev, iki ülke arasındaki işbirliğinin yanı sıra ülkelerin ortaklaşa hayata geçirmeyi amaçladıkları projeler ele alındı. Taraflar, Hazar kıyısı doğalgaz boru hattı, Merkezi Asya mevcut boru hattı onarımı, Kuzey-Güney ulaşım koridorunun önemli halkasını oluşturan Uzen-Kızılkaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gürgen demiryolu hattının döşenmesi projelerini masaya yatırdılar.

Along with cooperation between the two countries, Berdimuhammedow and Nazarbayev also dealt with intended projects as partnerships between the countries. The sides talked about the natural gas pipeline in the Caspian Sea, restoration of existing pipelines in Central Asia, and the establishment of an important cirlce route in the Uzen-Kızılkaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gürgen railway line through the North-South transportation corridor.

Berdimuhammedov warmly celebrated the 10th anniversary of Astana's becoming the capital as well as the birthday of his Kazakh colleague.

Türkmen lider Berdimuhamedov, Astana dönüşü havaalanında yapılan Bakanlar Kurulu toplantısında Kazakistan'daki görüşmelerini değerlendirdi. Kazak meslektaşı ile yaptığı görüşmede enerji alanındaki işbirliğinin, özellikle de Kazak tarafının Türkmen gazını satın alma isteğinin ön plana çıktığını kaydeden Berdimuhamedov, komşu ülkenin yol yapımında elde ettiği tecrübenin öğrenilmesini istedi.

The Turkmen leader Berdimuhammedow appraised the meetings in Kazakhstan in the meeting of the Council of Ministers that took place in the Astana airport on the way home. Berdimuhammedov, speaking of cooperation in energy sectors and especially the wish of the Kazakh side to purchase Turkmen gas in the meeting with his Kazakh counterpart, also said that he hoped there would be a lot learned in the experience in laying the groundword between the neighbouring country.
