Here's an article in Turkish from ntvmsnbc.com that gives some more information on Turkey's sudden desire to find alternative sources of fuel. Thanks to the conflicts in the Caucasus all of a sudden the Nabucco Pipeline is looking like a must-have solution for a lot of countries.

Kafkaslardaki son gelişmelerin ardından doğalgazda Rusya’ya bağımlı olan ülkeler alternatif hatlar için çalışmalarını hızlandırdı. Türkiye, Azerbaycan’ın Şah Deniz-2 sahasından ek 8 milyar metreküp gaz talep edecek.

After the recent developments in the Caucasus, countries connected to Russia have sped up efforts to alternative lines. Turkey will apply for an extra 8 billion cubic metres of gas from Azerbaijan's Shahdeniz-2 field.

ANKARA - Rusya ile yaşanan ticari kriz ve İran’ın kış aylarında yapacağı olası doğalgaz kesintisi, Türkiye’yi yeni arayışlara itti. Bu çerçevede Enerji Bakanı Hilmi Güler, Türkmenistan’da enerji bakanı ile biraraya geliyor.

Ankara - The trade crisis with Russia and Iran's probable cutting off of natural gas during the upcoming winter months have compelled Turkey into a new search. In this environment Energy Minister Hilmi Güler has met with the energy minister in Turkmenistan.

Türkiye, hem İran üzerinden Türkmen gazının getirilmesini, hem de Hazar geçişli doğalgaz projesini hayata geçirmek istiyor. Eğer Türkmenistan’dan olumlu yanıt gelirse, Türkiye’nin iç tüketiminin yanı sıra Avrupa Birliği’ne gaz taşıyacak Nabucco Boru Hattı’na da büyük ölçüde gaz sağlanmış olacak.

Turkey wants to bring about both a project to bring Turkmen gas through Iran as well as a natural gas project crossing the Caspian Sea. If a positive reply comes from Turkmenistan, not only will Turkey's internal consumption be supplied, but also a large measure of the Nabucco Pipeline bringing gas to the European Union.

Hilmi Güler, Türkmenistan ziyaretinin hemen ardından Kazakistan’a gidecek. Kazakistan’da da petrol için müzakereler yapılacak. Güler, önümüzdeki hafta da Azerbaycan’a giderek Şah Deniz projesinin ikinci fazından iç tüketim için 8 milyar metreküplük gaz talep edecek.

Hilmi Güler will go to Kazakhstan right after his visit to Turkmenistan, where he will have discussions on oil as well. Güler will also go to Azerbaijan in the upcoming week where he will request 8 billion cubic metres of gas from the second phase of the Shahdeniz project for internal consumption.

NABUCCO’YA DESTEK BEKLENİYOR

Support expected for Nabucco

Türkiye Rusya’ya karşı alternatif hatlar için girişimlerini hızlandırırken, Avrupa Birliği’nden Nabucco’ya yönelik güçlü bir destek bekliyor.

Turkey is waiting for strong support for Nabucco from the European Union as it speeds up developments for alternative lines to Russia.

Türkiye, Nabucco hattından AB’ye giden gazın her durumda yüzde 15’ini kendisine ayırmak istiyor. Ancak AB, hattaki gaz miktarının azalması ihtimaline karşılık bu talebe sıcak bakmıyor. Bir diğer sorun ise, Türkiye’nin Nabucco hattından alacağı gaza, AB’nin ödediği fiyatı ödemek istemesi. AB bu konuda da Türkiye’ye garanti vermeye yanaşmıyor.

Turkey wants to set apart 15% of the gas from Nabucco going to the European Union for itself regardless of the circumstances. However, the European Union is not warm to this request and its possibility of decreased volume in the pipeline. Another problem is Turkey wanting to pay the European Union's price for the gas it will get from the pipeline. The European Union does not agree on giving Turkey a guarantee on this either.
