One other thing changed by the election of 2008: the myth of executive experience

Thursday, November 06, 2008

This is who John McCain should have picked if he wanted to win.

Remember the refrain before the election about "executive experience"? You would hear about it in the news all the time before the primaries: "Senator X is a pretty good candidate, but doesn't have any executive experience." Let's take a look at all the candidates with executive experience:
  • Rudy Giuliani - humiliating defeat in the primaries, bested by Ron Paul a few times.
  • Mike Huckabee - better than expected. Didn't win either, but Huckabee did the best of the executive experience holders. He's also a nice guy.
  • Mitt Romney - didn't win.
  • Bill Richardson - got 4th place, but a far 4th place.
  • Sarah Palin - dragged down the ticket. Someone like Senator Olympia Snowe probably could have given McCain a chance to win.
And who did the best? Senators Clinton, Obama, and McCain. This year senators cleaned house, governors and one big-city mayor had their clocks cleaned. Let's not hear about "executive experience" in 2012 please.
