Still waiting impatiently on the Galileoscopes
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
I've signed up for a Galileoscope here and am impatiently waiting for more information, which is supposed to be out any day now according to the site:
Information about ordering the Galileoscope will be posted here by mid-January!
Apparently they will cost about $20, will come unassembled (which is more interesting IMO) and will be able to show people the following:
No matter where you live, with this easy-to-assemble refractor you can see the celestial wonders that Galileo first glimpsed 400 years ago and that still delight stargazers today, including lunar craters, the phases of Venus, the moons of Jupiter, and Saturn's rings.Being in the centre of Seoul, I'm going to have to test out that "no matter where you live" part. Given that you can usually only see about five stars at night and maybe up to fifty if the sky is really clear, this Galileoscope is going to be put to the test. If I can really see the phases of Venus, Jupiter's moons and the rings of Saturn from Seoul I'll be very impressed.
