Latin announcement of Pope Francis
Friday, March 15, 2013
I was watching the announcement live yesterday and was pleased to hear Latin spoken for the first time in a while. My Latin not being especially good, I thought after hearing that either: 1) the Pope's name is Francisco, or 2) something to do with the Franciscan Order that I didn't understand was announced. Luckily it was the former.
I found the following on the Portuguese Wikipedia giving the Latin announcement with translation in Portuguese:
Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: | Anuncio-vos com grande alegria |
habemus Papam! | temos um Papa! |
Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum, | O Eminentíssimo e Reverendíssimo Senhor |
Dominum Georgium Marium | D. Jorge Mario |
Sanctæ Romanæ Ecclesiæ Cardinalem Bergoglio | Cardeal da Santa Igreja Romana, Bergoglio |
qui sibi nomen imposuit Franciscum. | que adotou o nome de Francisco. |
After a quick glance at some other Romance Wikipedias I don't see a translation in any of them.
