After the fall of the Soviet Union the US has worked to be influential in the Caucasus and Central Asia. The attacks of September 11th were used by the United States as a pretext for its war against terror operations on a world scale, placing military bases in the Central Asian countries of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, and soldiers began to be placed in the Caucasus region as well, in Azerbaijan and Georgia. Being unsatisfied with this, in the last few months with the Iraq operation it has prepared it has put Iraqi oil under its guarantee. (note: this part seems to be pretty old and probably inaccurate; it also had Kyrgyzstan written twice.)

The United States is in close contact in the region with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In fact, its large oil companies have agreed to a pipeline to be opened through Iran.
