Security preparations for Barack Obama's visit to Turkey

Atatürk Havalimanı, eski adıyla Yeşilköy Havaalanı, 1912 yılında Türkiye'de ilk defa sivil hava ulaşımının başlatıldığı yerdir. 1953 yılında da uluslararası hava trafiğine açılmıştır. 1980 yılında adı, Atatürk adı verilerek, Atatürk Havalimanı olarak değiştirilmiştir.

It's always fun to read about the massive security operation conducted every time the President visits a country. There was quite a bit of info on this in Canadian newspapers before he visited Canada as well, going over the special presidential limo known as The Beast (complete with its own air supply, extra blood supply as well, thick enough armour to take a rocket attack with no problem etc. etc.) as well as the preparations in keeping the roads secure for the motorcade. Lots of fun.

İstanbul Valisi Muammer Güler, ABD Başkanı Barack Obama'nın İstanbul'a yapacağı ziyaret sırasında 8 bin 800 emniyet personelinin görev yapacağını belirterek, Obama'nın konvoyunun geçişi sırasında yaya geçitlerinde kısa süreli kapatmalar yapılacağını, metrobüs, tramvay ve şehir hatları vapur seferlerinde herhangi bir aksamanın olmayacağını bildirdi.

Istanbul Governor Muammer Güler said that for US President Barack Obama's visit to Istanbul 8,800 security personnel would be on task, pedestrian crossings would be temporarily closed for the moving of the convoy, and that there would be no problems with city buses, tramways and city lines.

However it does mention that certain roads will be closed if they deem it necessary. Then:

Obama'nın İstanbul'a yapacağı ziyaret öncesinde Atatürk Havalimanı'nda güvenlik önlemleri sarı alarm seviyesine yükseltildi.

Before Obama's visit to Istanbul, Atatürk Airport's security measures will be raised to yellow alert.

Sarı alarm düzeyi Başkan Obama'nın 7 Nisan Salı günü İstanbul'dan ayrılacağı öğleden sonraya kadar devam edecek.

The yellow alert level will remain until the 7th of April when President Obama leaves in the afternoon.

Barack Obama'nın uçağı Air Force One'ın Atatürk Havalimanı'na gelişinde ve İstanbul'dan ayrılacağı saatten 15'er dakika önce havalimanı trafiği, uçakların iniş ve kalkışlarına kapatılacak.

Air traffic as well as airplane arrivals and departures will be shut down for 15 minutes before Barack Obama's Air Force One airplane arrives and leaves Atatürk Airport.

It ends with a comment by the authorities suggesting that citizens going to the airport during that time should take the subway if they don't want to be inconvenienced.
