It's looking like the name for Node 3 of the International Space Station is going to be Colbert considering that NASA has decided to make the announcement on the show on Tuesday. NASA astronaut Sunita Williams will be on the show to make the announcement.
I've been a big fan of the idea since its inception simply for the fact that Stephen Colbert (the real Stephen Colbert, not the character he plays) is a huge fan of science and often has astronauts, scientists and astronomers on his show, and I would even dare say that outside of shows specifically devoted to science The Colbert Report has more science per capita than any other.
The decision to announce the naming on his show is also notable since NASA had originally planned to name the node April 28 in February when it was to arrive in Florida, but doing the announcement on The Colbert Report will bring in much, much more publicity...plus it'll be super easy to embed in your blog, just like this:
